Temporary Work Visa (Subclass 400) (Short Stay Specialist)

This is a temporary visa that allows the applicant to live in Australia for a period of 3 months. The applicant can be having highly specialised short-term work or might be involved in work or activity for limited circumstances in the interest of Australia.

Benefits Of Temporary Work Visa:

The applicant is allowed to stay for 3 months but in case of certain circumstances, the applicant can extend their short stay 400 visa to a time period of 6 months. The applicant is also allowed to visit Australia frequently as they are granted a multiple entry visa. The applicant is even allowed to bring along eligible family members to Australia but the short stay specialist 400 visa does not allow these family members to work in Australia.

Requirements:

  • At the time of lodging application and at the time of visa grant, the applicant must be outside Australia.
  • The applicant must be indulged in highly specialised activity which is short – term and not ongoing. They should be having the desired traits for the activity they are indulged in.
  • The applicant must provide evidence for their financial capacity to support themselves as well as the accompanying family members during the stay. The evidence can be employment contract, accommodation or allowances by employer in Australia and Letter or bank statement from a financial institution.
  • To meetthe health requirements, the applicant and accompanying family members need to undergo a medical examination within 12 months of lodging visa application.
  • The applicant and the accompanying family members must submit police certificates from the respective countries in which they have lived for 12 months or more in the last 10 years after turning 16 years old to meet character requirements.
  • The applicant is expected to be covered by the national scheme of Australia like Medicare to cover all their health cost for the duration of the visa or for the period they stay in Australia.

Restrictions on Work and Activity

The applicant must finish the activity or work within 6 months or less and once the visa expires must live in Australia. On short activity 400 visas, the applicant is neither allowed to work with the entertainment industry nor undergo any training or educational course. However, the visa allows the visa holder to attend a red – carpet premiere in Australia or even promote a rock band with no performances in Australia. Also, during the applicant’s stay in Australia on their visa, a change of applicant’s designation is not allowed.
